It wasn't too long ago that this bird was only an occasional winter visitor to the UK, however now they seem to be quite common, certainly across the south east. We have excavated a large pond in order to attract these exquisite looking birds, we have placed nice perches into the water for the birds to fish off and the banks are planted up with a colourful selection of native flora. The easy fishing means sometimes up to 3 or 4 can be seen on the body of water at any one time.
We also have canvas hides up at their nests to offer photographers the opportunity to capture the more intimate side of them bringing up their young. breeding season.
